Subject: VirginityQUESTION: I lost my virginity when I was 22. I had no bleeding or pain like I had been told to expect. I dont't really know why. The only reason I can think of is that I had been using tampons since I was like 14. Could this have anything to do with this? Could I have somehow taken my own virginity? The only reason I really think about this is cause my boyfriend didn't actually believe me when I said he was my first. REPLY: Well, your boyfriend can't know if you are a virgin from that, so I'd look at his not believing you as a kind of relationship red flag. But on virginity, you could have torn your own hymen. Many women tear their hymen over many years of tampon use. But that does NOT mean you lose your virginity. The medical definition of loss of virginity is quite specific (which drives lifelong gay women nuts) - it has to be a penis going into a vagina to qualify. - KT . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
